The app
Spoolhouse keeps everything on your computer: your spools, printers, print history and settings. It has no account and sends nothing to us or anyone else.
- It talks to your printer over your local network, and only reads from it.
- Once a day it asks GitHub whether a newer version is out. That’s a plain request for the public list of releases, the same as opening the page in a browser. You can switch it off in Settings → Updates.
- Backups go only to the folder you choose.
The phone app (Android)
The Spoolhouse phone app has no account and sends nothing to us. It talks only to the tags you hold to it and to the computer you pair it with.
- NFC: used to read, write and wipe the RFID tags on your filament spools. What it reads stays on your phone and your computer.
- Camera: Spoolhouse never uses your camera. Scanning the pairing QR code is done by Google Play services' code scanner, which hands Spoolhouse only the code's text.
- Your home network: once paired, the app connects to Spoolhouse on your computer over your local network, encrypted, to show and update your inventory and printers. It finds your computer on the network by its name; nothing goes over the internet.
- On the phone: it keeps the pairing details, a copy of your inventory so it works away from home, changes waiting to sync, the serial numbers it has issued, and your settings. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
- Notifications: made on the phone from your computer's own alerts (print finished, running low, CFS too damp). You choose which in the app's Settings.
- To disconnect a phone, use Forget this computer in the app, or remove the phone in Spoolhouse on your computer (Settings → Phone access).
No analytics, no adverts, no tracking, no data sold or shared. Google Play and Google Play services have their own privacy policy.
Testers
If you’ve agreed to help test Spoolhouse, we keep what you give us so we can run the tests with you:
- your name, your email address and which computers or phones you test on;
- your answers and notes on each test checklist;
- when you open your tester link or download a test version, with your browser’s name and a shortened network address, so we can spot a link that’s been passed on.
Your tester page sets a cookie that remembers you for six months; “Forget me on this browser” removes it. None of this is shared with anyone. Ask at [email protected] and we’ll delete it.
